Biomedical Acupuncture - Dry Needling
Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique with a history of thousands of years. Although it originates from traditional Chinese medicine, today it is also used in modern physiotherapy based on the principles of anatomy, physiology and evidence-based clinical practice. In physiotherapy it is applied using fine, sterile, single-use needles, usually inserted into muscles and connective tissue in order to activate the body's natural mechanisms that help reduce pain, improve tissue function and restore normal movement.
Local Effect
At a local level, acupuncture acts directly on the skin, muscles, nerve and connective tissue. In this way it induces muscle relaxation, increases blood flow and improves cell nutrition in the area.
Central Effect
The mechanical stimulus of the needle is transmitted to the spinal cord and the brain. This triggers the release of the body's natural painkilling and anti-inflammatory substances, which effectively block the transmission of pain signals and limit inflammatory processes.
Systemic Effect
Acupuncture reprogrammes the brain's response to pain and stress. At the same time, it balances the body's internal environment, strengthening its natural homeostatic mechanisms.
Certified Therapists
At United Physios, it is performed exclusively by certified physiotherapists with specialised university training.
