Manual Therapy
The International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) defines manual therapy as a specialisation within the applied science of Physiotherapy, focused on the management of disorders of the musculoskeletal and peripheral nervous systems.
Clinical Assessment
It begins with a detailed clinical assessment and is based on the therapist's clinical reasoning, in order to identify the real factors contributing to pain or dysfunction.
Techniques
Specialised mobilisation techniques for joints, soft tissues and neural tissue, therapeutic exercise and patient education. According to current scientific evidence, combining these interventions helps reduce pain, improve mobility and restore function.
How Manual Therapy Works
Neurophysiological action: the techniques applied stimulate the body's nerve receptors, activating its natural pain-relief mechanisms. The result is an immediate reduction in pain, relaxation of muscle spasm and a faster recovery of movement, with the entire treatment carried out safely in the patient's own space.
Patient Education
Through reliable information about the nature of their condition, an understanding of their symptoms and proper pain management, patients take control of their health. This process greatly reduces anxiety and fear of movement (kinesiophobia), improves adherence to the therapeutic exercise programme and builds healthy movement habits in everyday life.
